Source Adventure

canoe loch shiel & moidart

Scottish Open Canoe Expeditions:

Canoeing on Loch Shiel and the Moidart Peninsula

A true wilderness expedition, Once we leave Glenfinnan and start our journey down the Loch we see no other roads or houses till the far end of the Loch. A truly inspirational trip, wild camping our way down till we reach Acharacle as the loch narrows to become a fine narrow river twisting and turning its way towards the sea. All however is not complete as at a low tide there is a rapid to negotiate or portage. At high tide all evidence of the rapid disappear. The story of the trip again changes chapter as we will* paddle past Castle Tioram and investigate the small islands out in the sea loch.

This trip is suitable for the novice canoeist but a willingness to put in considerable effort as the Loch is 22km long. So a high level of general fitness is essential.

There will be a maximum of: One member of Source's highly qualified staff to a maximum of Six clients. We feel this is the ideal number of people so our staff can ensure you get a high level of  personal service alongside a good mix of characters.

Day 1:  Meeting in Fort William we make our way to the start at Glenfinnan. Setting off under the shadow of the Glenfinnan viaduct and monument heading out into the Loch to our first wild camp  10 kms away

Day 2: Leaving Camp heading a further 9 kms to camp near the Burial island and St finans chapel, c.1500.

Day 3: Continuing down the loch as it narrows and passes sheil bridge the river twists and turns towards the Sea and our Finish point at Castle Tioram.

Sounds good, but you would prefer a different Loch and Moving journey then click here
